WordPress 3.0 Beta Released!

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

Great news to everyone that has been anticipating the newest addition to WordPress, the WordPress 3.0. Although not in its final stage, Automattic, the company behind the publishing system, has released a Beta 1 version of WordPress 3.0.

With it still being in the beta version, users may expect some small problems here and there. This is because the product is still under testing and isn’t stable yet. There will be a few other releases in the future which will be the Beta 2 and a few RC or Release Candidates available and once everything is fine, the final and stable product will be released by the company.

With this being said and done, it is highly recommended not to put the Beta version on a live environment as there might be some problems and vulnerabilities that may affect the site through one way or the other. As with the Beta version of other products, these versions should not be taken seriously and only once the end product is completed, then it may be safe to use it on a live server.

Is the beta version of WordPress 3.0 worth the try?

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

WordPress 3.0 has sparked interest of a lot of people. This is mainly due to the fact that it comes with a lot of additional features that have always been awaited amongst the WordPress community. In fact, WordPress 3.0 is certainly a better version as compared with the previous version even in its nightly build.

However, this doesn’t mean that it is safe to try the beta version in a production server or in a live website. This is because beta versions are not yet stable and there may be a few bugs that needed to be fixed.

Those insisting that they want to try the beta version however can resort on installing these on a test server. Windows users can use programs such as WAMPServer or XAMPP while Linux users can get their hands on LAMP for testing purposes.

Test beta versions can be fun. Hunting for bugs and helping the community with problems can be fun as well. As for developers, the beta version can be a test ground for future updates of their plugins or themes. Therefore, it may be best to check them out and see whether the themes and plugins suit the new version of WordPress.

WordPress 3.0 HOT features to check out

Friday, March 19th, 2010

WordPress 3.0 is coming out soon and it is coming with a BANG. Some new features will be implemented in the new WordPress 3.0 and a lot of them are worth checking out. In a sentence, WordPress 3.0 is a lot better as compared with the previous versions and here are some reasons why.

The first feature is a revamp of the admin user interface. It will look much better than before. Although this was made available in WordPress 2.9, it wasn’t actually integrated fully into it. WordPress 3.0 will change some parts of the user interface while making everything looks just as great as before.

In addition to that, the menu feature in WordPress wasn’t something that was commendable. It was difficult to change the menu settings and most often than not, users will have to dig in to the codes behind WordPress. However, that will soon change as the WordPress 3.0 will make menu management a lot easier.

WordPress 3.0 also allows a custom post type to be made. Some example is a Portfolio custom post section. Previously, everything can be divided to either posts or pages but now, more can be made by the user. This allows WordPress to act more as a content management system rather than a publishing platform.
